Validation Cases and Examples

Skarstrom ships with a set of ready-made simulation files based on published adsorption studies. They are the fastest way to learn the software: open one, inspect how it is set up, and adapt it to your own problem.

Load them from the Examples menu in the application — each is an ordinary .json simulation file you can modify and save under a new name.

Guided walk-through

  • Ward 2022 — a single-component CO₂ breakthrough experiment on activated carbon, reproduced step by step from components through to validated outlet curves. Start here.

Bundled example cases

The Examples menu also includes, among others:

  • Perez (2019)
  • Streb (2021)
  • Ward (2022) — breakthrough at several feed flow rates
  • Nguyen (2022) and Nguyen (2023)
  • Ward (2024)
  • Arora (2021) — Li-LSX PSA and PVSA cycles
  • Biogas PSA — an 8-step Skarstrom cycle

Working with an example

  1. Open the example from the Examples menu.
  2. Review each stage in the Navigation panel — fluid, adsorbents, column, cycle — to see how it is configured.
  3. Run the solver and plot the results; overlay the supplied experimental data where provided.
  4. Adapt parameters and Save As to build your own case.
